How the Automatic Packing feature can determine your gate seal time!

I love the Automatic Packing and usually prefer cold runners.

I was mentoring a Moldflow customer these week, showing how the Automatic Packing feature can determine our gate seal time. For this case, it seemed the Automatic Packing was not correct since the gates were still molten at the calculated pack time.

Once I rotated the modeled, I noticed the sprue froze off at ~5 seconds while the gates froze at about 7 seconds. In this case, the sprue inlet was undersized and the Automatic Packing feature caught that where I might have missed the issue.

Moral of this story? Make sure your gates and runners are sized properly and try the Automatic Packing feature!
